Background & History
I started programming computers in high school... not so unusual today, but back when I started, my school was the first in the state of California to offer a programming class. Eventually I ended up teaching a basic programming class after school to junior high students.
In college, a friend and I started a company. We bought Altair computer kits from MITS, assembled them, loaded some basic business software we had written, and sold them to local businesses. At one point, Paul Terrell offered us the Northen California distributorship for MITS... but I decided I'd rather graduate and get a job with a "real" computer company (Hewlett-Packard).
As an aside, I ended up with a couple of cases of MITS brochures. They were really nice for their time, full color and eight pages. After moving them around several times, I finally tossed them all. A few years later, when eBay created "markets" for all sorts of obscure items, I found that computer collectors sometimes pay $50 or more for those early bruchures. I must have had a thousand of them in those cartons I threw away!
