I spent a couple of hours tonight getting software off my Simh emulator and onto my Kaypro.
First I did Vedit Plus, a terrific programmer's editor, and then z80 MASM, Aztec C, and Pascal MT+. All are working, with only a couple of minor problems.
Vedit was the biggest pain for me. For about an hour I couldn't figure out how to get it set up for a Kaypro.

After messing around with the installation program, I discovered three pages of terminal definitions that vedit knows about, where before I only saw one. Of course the Kaypro definition is on the second page.
So after getting the terminal set up and working on the keyboard setup, I have a very nice text editor. This is nice, since I really did not want to use Wordstar for editing program text, Vedit is especially nice because it's small (about 20K, I think) and doesn't need any support programs, so I can put it on all my OS disks.
The other apps, MASM, Aztec, and Pascal MT+, were simpler to install. They just copied over to their diskettes, and were working... almost.
My biggest issue is that my 5 1/4" HD floppy drive is not good at making 360K diskettes. I guess the higher density means a lower density magnetic fields, which the Kaypro disk sometimes has trouble with. I need to buy a real 360K drive and some more DSDD diskettes.
So now I have most of what I want in a CP/M computer, especially all the development tools. I need to look around for some games to show at the next vintage computing show here in Hampton Roads.
Are we having fun yet?
