Welcome!

This Old Micro is a special purpose social network for those interested in retro computing technology.

Since so far none of the members has physically met any other, I suppose it doesn't much matter where we are, but just to be neighborly, we in the Hampton Roads area of southeastern Virginia.

The application we run is ConcourseConnect, from Concursive Corporation. Connect is an enterprise version of a web 2.0 collaboration and community building software. It has most of the capabilities of Facebook, Jive, Ning, or others of that sort, while preserving enterprise scalability, security, and privacy.

I created This Old Micro as a vehicle for me to document my own adventures in retro computing. While I don't have as much time, space, and cash to devote as I might like, I do have some focused interests.

My main interest and collection is older Unix systems, because I've been involved with them both as a student and as a professional for the past thirty years. I started and ran one of the early Public Access Unix systems back in the '80s and early '90s before it transitioned to a large ISP and ASP in 1994, and those years were among the most enjoyable of my professional career.

I've been busy over the last few years resurrecting that old Public Access Unix system. playing with it, and making it available to anyone that wants to play. Along the way, I've met some cool and interesting folks with similar interests in old, sophisticated technology, and thought it might be nice to provide them a place to hang their hats.

Welcome to This Old Micro!
